All about Bikram Yoga and its yoga poses

Traditional gym exercises are no longer trendy instead Bikram yoga provides a very unique and diversified approach to us, Bikram yoga is founded by Bikram Choudhury and it is used to increase the flexibility of the human body, Bikram Yoga helps in the circulation of clean and oxygenated blood to every part of our body and it will help you to get rid of your calories. Bikram yoga is conducted in a heated room that’s why it is also known as Bikram hot yoga.

About Bikram Choudhury

 

Bikram Choudhury, an Indian-born-American yoga teacher, and founder of Bikram yoga. He was born on February 10, 1944, in Kolkata and began learning yoga poses in 1969 at a very young age and had won the National India Yoga Championship for three years in his early teens. In 1971 he migrated to the United States to teach yoga. He opened his first Bikram yoga studio in Los Angeles. 

 

Till the 1990s his studios were founded in many countries across the world. He got married in 1984 with Rajshree Choudhury, who facilitated him in finding the  United States Yoga Federation and the International Yoga Championship Federation. He returned to India in 2016. Despite his return from the United States, people still continue to attend his teacher training.

 

How it works

 

Bikram yoga consists of 26 poses which include 24 asanas, 2 breathing exercises(Pranayama, Skatkarma) which should be done in a fixed sequence to increase the oxygen level in your body. Bikram Yoga sessions take 90 minutes to complete all the asanas and exercises. 

Bikram hot yoga poses are conducted in a room in which temperature should be at least 105 degrees Fahrenheit with 40% Humidity.

5. Camel Pose

6. Half Tortoise Pose

 

This Bikram yoga pose mainly focuses on your sleeping problems like insomnia, this pose improves the strength of the pituitary gland which makes your sleeping habits better than ever.

 

7. Fixed Firm Pose


 

This pose resolves the bone problems like pain in knees, elbows or any other joints but if your joints are not paining then its still a better option for you to perform this pose so that you don’t have these types of problems in the future.  

 

8. Bow Pose

 

 

 While doing this Bikram yoga pose you feel the force on your abdomen when you pull your legs upward, this yoga pose makes your spine stronger.


9. Full Locust Pose


 

This Bikram yoga pose is used to detoxify your body parts like liver and spleen, this yoga pose is an excellent body cleansing process.

 

10. Locust Pose



This Bikram Hot Yoga Pose concentrates on the inner part of bodies such as core and muscles.

 


11. Cobra Pose

This Bikram Yoga Pose needs lots of practice to get the right position, this pose enhances spinal power and increases your hunger.

 

12. Sit Up


It is a very common pose but when it comes to yoga, you have to be very careful while doing this pose. This Bikram yoga pose helps in improving the flexibility of your spine.

 


13. The Wind Removing Pose


 

This position is for individuals who are having some issues with their stomachs. This Bikram hot yoga pose is done by resting on your back and pull your knees towards your chest

 

14. Dead Body Pose

15. Toe Stand


This Bikram hot yoga pose totally depends on the balance of your body on your toe. This pose is meant to increase your focus and it is very beneficial for your health.


16. Tree Pose


This Bikram yoga pose is very famous because of its posture, but when it comes to doing it, this pose is very complicated because it needs patience and proper body balance. 

 

17. Standing Separate Leg Head to Knee Pose

This pose is also known as teardrop pose because in this pose you have to shape like a teardrop by rounding your spin, its an excellent for strengthening abdominal muscles which leads to improving the immune system and decrease in lots of calories.


18. Triangle Pose

 

 

This Bikram hot yoga pose helps your body to improve their respiratory system digestive system and abdominal organs of your body. This pose stretches most of your body parts like the spine, chest, shoulders, calves, hamstrings.


19. Standing Separate Stretch Leg Stretching

 

 

This pose is very difficult for beginners because it needs a lot of time and patience. This Bikram yoga pose helps in improving the nervous system and internal organs of your body.


20. Balancing Stick Pose

This Bikram Yoga Pose is to increases the blood flow to the brain, this pose makes your body look like alphabet T that’s why it's also known as Tuladandasana.


21. Standing Bow Pose

 

 

This pose is also known as Dandayamana-Dhanurasana because this pose makes your whole body looks like a bow. This Bikram yoga pose makes your spine strong and enhances the elasticity and size of the rib cage.


22. Standing Head to Knee Pose

This pose helps to rebuilds the fluid in your joints, but it needs lots of strength, patience and yoga experience. In this pose, you need to required to put your head on your knees while both the legs are perpendicular to each other.


23. Eagle Pose

 

This Bikram yoga pose works on the basis of pressure points on your skin and it is very beneficial for pregnant women by improving with her fertility heath.


24. The Awkward Pose

As you can read this pose makes you feel awkward while doing it but this pose is effective for your body strength usually, this pose is done before starting your yoga to warm up your body.


25. Head to Knee with Stretching Pose


This pose helps to enhance your metabolism and rebuilds the fluid in your joints, but it needs lots of strength, patience and yoga experience. In this pose, you need to required to sit and put your head on your knees while both the legs are perpendicular to each other.

26. Pranayama


This is a very famous breathing exercise which means control on your breath usually, people use pranayama before starting their yoga session because it helps in improving the respiratory system of your body and helps to control your breath while doing yoga.
